I Will Fight You! ... Or Will I?
Ruriri, Valitteri Cola, DoDo Monday

One of the girls, an azuril named Ruriri, sat up with a horrified expression on her face and began to cry. Hiccuping little azuril chitters. She was stiff and slow with her movements, as if in enormous pain. Several of the kids broke their petrification and rushed to her side. Some were concerned, some aghast. One or two glared up at him accusingly.

"You did this!" Oh, the two-headed doduo accusing him was great. They would argue themselves hoarse. "Shut up, Dom. You don't know what you're talking about," the left head said. The right head named Dominic looked at the left named Reagan and sneered.

"I didn't mean to!" The charcadet didn't think the doduo's argument was relevant to himself so he struggled to gather words in his defense without them. "You think I hurt her on purpose?"

"No. No," Ruriri said softly and looked up at Valtteri in fear, but not because he had scared her. She just hadn't felt this kind of pain before. "No, we were just playing. You all saw that he was playing like the rest of us. It's not his fault."

Almost timidly he approached her. Some of the other pokémon children backed away as he growled and shook his head. His internal conflict was audible but it sounded fierce and scary!

Valtteri stood in front of Ruriri with blazing eyes. He couldn't help that he was made of coal and burning with a heat of both fire and passion. "I'm sorry, Riri. Where does it hurt?"

"It's okay, Val. Help me get up?" She looked up at Valtteri without fear, but she didn't look or feel defiant. Just open and trusting of him, as if he were anyone else. He always appreciated that and attempted a smile for her.

Valtteri's accuser grumbled and stepped away, fear overtaking Dom, the left head. Ray, the right head, had no say in the matter.

But the azuril smiled. "Okay." She leaned against Valtteri as he helped her to her feet. She could not balance on the ball at the end of her tail, only shuffle along on the ground. With her ankle twisted as it was, she could only go but very slowly.

He glared around them. "Well? What are you all waiting for? The bell rang. We're supposed to go back to class! Don't wait for us!"

Kids scattered, though his accuser lingered. Ruriri said softly, "Please tell the teacher that we'll be a little late."

The doduo dug in his heels and lifted up a foot, pointing one clawed toe at her. Dominic glared fiercely at Valtteri while Reagan looked at his twin suspiciously. "Go to the nurse's office."

Oh. That was a surprisingly sensible thing to say. Well, not one to let his brother get one up on him, Ray took a step forward. This time it was Dom ready with a suspicious look. "Wait. We can carry her on our back."

She hesitated, then nodded. To Valtteri, she asked, "Will you help me stay up on his back? I feel wobbly."

"Of course." He glared at Ray this time.

The doduo folded spindly legs and waited on the ground, that was all.

Valtteri thought that maybe this boy (or boys?) had a crush on Ruriri. He smirked.

The other boy's soft smile for the girl shifted as he glared at Valtteri. "Make sure she stays put on my back! Or else…"

"Or else what, chicken boy?" Valtteri grinned winningly.

"Please," Ruriri gasped. The pain was too much for this petty rivalry.

Valtteri hastily switched his focus back to her. "Okay, we're going." It was the least he could do after hurting his friend, even though it had been an accident. "Hang in there, Riri."

It was slow going, but soon Ruriri was up on the doduo's back with Valtteri sitting behind her, holding her steady. "Okay, we're ready." Both of the doduo's heads nodded and they rose to their feet and walked them to the nurse's office. She was going to be okay.

Valtteri had to admit, the doduo was being helpful (for a change) and he felt a bit of respect for them. He looked at the backs of their heads with a bit of that respect glowing in his eyes. But Riri winced, it was happening every now and then. He reached up to pet her head soothingly and that seemed to help.

When they got to the nurse's office, the boys were dismissed after they gave their accounts of what happened. What now? "I can't believe we have to wait!" Dom was irritated. "We helped out, after all!"

"She'll be okay."

"He's right." Reagan first looked at his twin then at the charcadet. "We should head back to class. She'll probably go home after treatment. She looked she couldn't walk on her own."

"She couldn't," Val confirmed.

Ray nodded. "Then let's go."

The charcadet sighed, "Okay."

Neither boy was going to be able to focus in class, even though they knew Ruriri would be fine, eventually.

"Heh," Valtteri grinned. "We did good today."

"Yeah." The doduo twins looked over at him.

"It was like… I was a knight and she was a princess.. and you were the faithful steed." Val smirked and glanced at the twins.

"No way, you're more like an Xmas lump of coal!" the doduo's spat.

"What!" Nevermind what he might have begun to think of them before. This doduo sucked!
