A Friendly Battle
(Flatsale Prompt Entry) "Bastet what in the world are you doing with that thing?" The Purrloin opened his eyes with a yawn as he heard his companion, the female Meowth, approach. "It's gonna be a great new weapon Lorne just you wait and see!" she replied, her broad grin plastered on her face as she rolled a red and white ball towards her friend. "Yeah. If you throw it at someone!" he remarked, disbelieving. "Shut up Lorne, I'll show you!" she snapped back. "Uh-huh suuuuuure you will." "I will! I'll prove it right now lets battle!" she stood up on her hind legs and puffed out her chest. "Again? I just got my fur all straightened up after the last one. I mean honestly, did you have to knock me in the water?" the Purrloin groaned and stretched. "Maaaaayyyybee...and I didn't knock you, I psyched you out. I still won." "You cheated." "Says you!" Lorne was smirking some as he got to his feet and stretched a little, back arching. He was just teasing Bastet, this was a normal thing, this back and forth. They'd been friends for so long they bantered as if they were siblings. A great deal of rivalry, hardly any seriousness behind it all, which wasn't a bad thing. It kept things interesting. There was another stretch from Lorne, an almost bored look as he got to his feet, tail twitching some as he looked to his friend, and a mocking smile crossed his lips. "I win, you ditch the ball." "I win, and it comes along." She retorted, not missing a beat. "Fine, but you get to figure out how to bring it along." "I will!" he had no doubt about that really! He pranced away from the ball and Bastet pretending to ignore her, and watched as she made the first move, a growl coming from her as she lept and swiped at him. A quick jump to the side prevented Scratch from hitting, and he grinned some, starting toward her then last moment jumping to one side to make her think he was going that way and as she moved that way he charged ahead with his own scratch, grinning. Fake Out only tended to work once or twice on her, she was used to his tricks after all this time. The hit connected, causing her to flinch and he Scratched at her. His claws caught her on her cheek, clipping some fur free. Shaking it off, she scraped her claws on the ground, sharpening them. “What’s the matter, Bastet? You know I’m gonna beat you?” Lorne Tormented her. This was the move that always worked on Bastet. She was too proud not to fall for it. A snarl and the Meowth leapt at the Purrloin, sharpened claws outstretched. A worried look flashed on Lorne’s face, sometimes he wondered if his Tormenting would ever push her over the edge. Bastet’s broad grin reassured him she was within control, however it was too late for him to move out of the way. She caught him across the chest, fur flying. It wasn't too much longer of their back and forth before he found himself pinned, and Bastet smirking down at him. "HA! I win!" Lorne was smirking back. "Says you. You're the one that has to carry that thing not me. Are you sure you won?" and he wriggled out from under her, his tail smacking the pokeball, and he laughed. "That thing is gonna be hard to carry." He knew by the look on her face she hadn't thought about that. So true, she'd won the battle, but he felt he'd won the war so to speak.

Lorne Meets Bastet
Cold...it's so cold. If I don't find shelter soon I'm going to freeze...
The words echoed in his head as he walked, head down with his ears flattened to block out the wind. He didn't have the mass to keep himself warm, thieving had been at an all time low lately, and his fur hung on him loosely, and he swore he could count his ribs.
Stealing was hard for a young Purrloin on his own, and finding enough food and warm places to sleep was getting to be more difficult. He'd been hanging around with some other wild Pokemon but they'd up and vanished on him one day without a word. Damn migration stuff.
So now here he was weeks later, freezing. Starving. He hated being cold, and hungry. Especially at the same time. He was reaching the end of his endurance, and finally out of desperation tried to find a somewhat sheltered from the snow spot he could curl up and...what? Die? Probably. So he did finally find a dry spot, and curled up for awhile falling into a deep albeit slightly painful due to hunger pangs sleep.
He hadn't been asleep long, less than an hour when an angry voice had woken him demanding he leave immediately, that this was her spot, and if he knew what was good for him he'd leave immediately. Lorne was too everything to answer. Too tired. Cold. Hungry. Weak. He merely raised himself up on unsteady paws stomach rumbling from the food he could smell. She had something at her feet that had obviously been brought back to be enjoyed in her little shelter.
Oh man that looked so good. He looked at it longingly, but said nothing, and instead walked past her, and out into the snow where he very simply collapsed and curled. He heard words like 'Good riddance' and 'How dare you' floating over the cold wind, but he didn't care. He curled up on himself and he felt the snow start to fall, start to cover him slowly like a blanket. A cold blanket. No...it was warm.
Lorne didn't move as the snow grew heavier. He was so tired. Too tired. This was good. He had given up. So when he suddenly was nudged by...what? His eyes cracked open and he looked up blearily to see the Meowth standing there looking concerned. It took a few times of her repeating herself to get him on his feet, and back inside the shelter where her food remained untouched. That he'd simply chosen to lay down in the snow had felt like a trick. But time had worn on and the snow covered him more and it worried her.
So now he was here...and her food was pushed to him with a mutter about how suddenly she wasn't so hungry. Her blanket was tugged over him, and she curled up next to him to help warm him. Slowly Lorne ate, but half of it was nudged back to her. He couldn't eat much, and she should too. There was a smile and the Meowth finished the rest. "I'm Lorne. To whom do I owe my life and my thanks." "I'm Bastet. Your life huh? I can find something to do with that."
"Hey Lorne, whatchya thinking about?" "Hm? Oh nothing Bast, just thinking about the first time we met when we were younger." "You almost froze to death and died from hunger, idiot." the words were affectionate, and he head butted her lightly, purring. "I know. What would I do without you?" "Probably starve. Or freeze. Or both. Now come on before we DO freeze dummy."
Lorne chuckled and stepped into their new home and curled up against his friend. Oh yes, she had saved him, in so many ways.

A Gift For BastetNot all of Lorne's waking moments were spent in Bastet's company, and today was no different. They'd parted ways earlier in the day because he said he needed to go 'see a 'mon, about a thing' and left it at that. Not even Bast trying to get the information caused him to give up his plans of the day. All he said was 'You'll see when I get back tonight. Stay out of trouble!' and took off. That had been hours before, and he'd been wandering the streets for awhile now. He'd had the urge for a few days now to get her something nice, just because. It was not an unusual thing for him to filtch things as presents to her. They were useless trinkets usually, but they were gifts none the less. Sometimes he managed to get her some thing she loved to eat. Today though his mind was on frivolous and obviously expensive. "This is a bust...I'm going to go back empty pawed and Bast is going to stare at me, and laugh because I have nothing to show for my day...and she'll probably have a ton of stuff she got." he sighed a moment as he stood in the shadows watching the hustle and bustle of people going by. As he waited, the sparkle of something in a shop window caught his eye and he crept from his spot and carefully darted across, leaping gracefully atop some boxes until he was more on level with the window, and looked at the sparkle with a curious look. What was it? Closer inspection revealed a necklace, obviously too big for the Meowth to be able to wear in any fashion, but it was so pretty! It had a gold chain, and something hanging on the end of it, though the sun was hitting it and made it really hard to see just what it was. Still...if it was that bright and shiny he wanted it for her, she'd love it, and probably find a way to wear it anyhow, she was resourceful. So he watched and he waited. The store was devoid of business and the door hung open. No sign of a shop keeper..and so he jumped down and made his way towards the door poking his nose in and sniffing. "Sounds like someone went off and left the door open. Their loss is totally my gain." or Bast's gain. So in he went, slinking along the slight shadows before he was up in the window where he watched carefully. No one was paying him the least bit of attention! This was perfect! Carefully he raised up on his hind legs, and his teeth caught the chain and he tugged it off the display before he was off like a shot prize held firmly between his teeth. How could everyone be so blind to this brilliantly sparkling necklace!? He didn't understand it. Still, he ran on determined to get it back home, and he pushed himself even as he began to grow tired. It must have been the adrenaline wearing off from the heist. Yeah that was it. He yawned and would have dropped it if it hadn't some how wrapped around his neck. That was fortunate! "Almost. Home." the words panted out as he ran and ducked into the abandoned building they called home and kept their stash of...well everything. Food, clothes, books, etc. If it was unattended or looked interesting, it became theirs. Lorne's front legs faltered and he stumbled hard face skidding across the floor, and he came to a rest on their blankets feeling exhaustion washing over him. "Must.....be getting sick. That'll make her mad..." a deep yawn escaped him as he tugged the necklace off and fought the heavy sleep trying to claim him, the necklace laying on his paws, he guarding it. As his eyes became too heavy to fight with, he was finally able to see the charm on the necklace. "What...a pretty...star........ znnngggg" (stolen necklace and what it will look like after the extra shiny goes away.):

Oh crap.... growth response
He felt nice and warm from the sun coming in through the slats in the boarded up window. There was a yawn and a stretch from him as he did that, feeling his back arch and stretch. A few blinks of greens had his eyes coming open slowly, and he looked around slowly. That had been a good nap! He shook a little to wake himself up and brought up his paw to lick it only to blink. "WHOA!" he skittered backwards from the hand that was coming towards his face trying to pet him, and he blinked again realizing that he was looking at flailing legs and feet. "What in the....?" He paused and looked down again trying to make sense of what it was he was seeing....what was he seeing? How could he look like this? "Bast isn't gonna be happy..." he rubbed at his eyes and looked around their hide out, and spotted one of their many blankets he'd been laying on, and wrapped it around himself as he got slowly to his feet...and toppled. "Stupid legs!" well they were! They wouldn't support him! Still, he figured it out after a few minutes and was standing there staring at the front and backs of his hands. "Wow...what happened to me?" he moved towards a mirror that was in the place, and thought it was cracked and semi-dirty he wiped the blanket on it, and looked at him self. "How weird! I look all...fleshy but furry and...like a human...sorta." he dropped the blanket and turned around peering over his shoulder. "Well tails in tact...and my ears of course. Claws are a bit short...but they'll grow. Guess I need clothes...and to find Bast...god she's gonna take this bad...what am I going to do!?" Why yes, he was more worried about how his friend would take his new look. Another worried thought hit him. Would she even be able to understand him and vice versa? "Oh god..what if we can't talk anymore!?" Lorne, was very, very upset.

Snarl
Over time, they had accumulated quite a bit...food, items, clothes...and of course in this wide variety of things...TM's. So Lorne was snooping through their pile of such things, trying to find one that seemed of interest.
"God...these all suck!" well to him they did. The ones he was seeing were of no use to him. Finally he came across one, and looked at it in idle interest. "Snarl? Eh...I guess....for now."
He pressed a finger to the button and watched the projection for it, and laughed. "I think Bast needed this one...she rants and yells more than I do!" the words were a mutter under his breath but it was done. The move was a simple one, and he knew how to rant and yell, though not as good as the Meowth girl did that was for sure!

Clothing Raid
The clothes they had laying around their base were crappy things, at least in Lorne's opinion. He was becoming quite opinionated on such things really. He was at the moment wearing some sort of stained shirt and ripped pants and running around bare foot. This wouldn't do!
So he left one morning, and went out and about before the sun had really risen and began to snoop. He watched intently as a truck began to unload some items and he crept closer, waiting till they were inside to investigate. He realized it was a clothing store getting things...perfect!
He hid until they went inside with another load and scrambled into the truck and randomly grabbed at stuff labled 'Boys' and ran out with an arm load of clothes that he hoped would fit!
Fortunately, he got away without being caught and ran back to their home, and pushed his haul in through the hole in the window and slid in as well, and moved towards the interior of the building, towards the room he had as his own.
The goods were dropped to the mattress and he began to rummage through. Finally the stained and torn clothes were off and he was putting on a fresh pair of pants, fascinated by all the pockets and loops. How perfect for tucking small things into! The shirt he picked out was a simple black tshirt...perfect!
He sorted the clothing out and set aside stuff that was too big. Oh well he'd just drop it with the rest of the stuff they'd acquired. Never knew when it would come in handy for trading or something.
Speaking of...he recalled the pair of shoes he saw recently and went to find those. He stared at the socks he had...and after some fussing got them on, then the shoes. Though they were weird. It would take some getting used to...but he looked at the mirror again and grinned. "Lookin' good Lorne!"

Movie Night
They'd managed to find a tv at some point, and had it hooked up. With some friends they'd made over time, they'd managed to furnish their little hide out....if not with high quality things...at least things that kept them comfortable. They had a small little couch thing and he was curled up on one end, watching some old black and white movie, tail swaying some as he watched.
The plot was boring as could be...but how he loved the clothes. The suits and all...they looked so crisp, so...intimidating. He watched in awe as the people...what were their names again? Body and Clyne? Something like that...he watched as they made robberies and get aways and couldn't help laughing.
"Wow...they remind me of me and Bast...just no guns or cars." he continued to eye 'Clyne's' clothes. "I want a suit..." the words were adamant. He wanted one...though he knew stealing one would be impossible. He groaned. He might actually have to do some honest work to earn the money to get a proper one. He wanted to look dapper and suave after all! Darn movie night giving him ideas!

Small Scale Larceny(Lorne robs Emmerich!) Lorne: Lorne was spending the day looking for some new, warm clothes for he and Bast, and generally being a nuisance to people who were out shopping for the holidays. He knew enough about the season to know there was an abundance of money and carelessness. Which meant he was doing pretty good cleaning out unsuspecting shoppers, and lining his own pockets with green.
As he slunk around the crowds trying not to stick out like a sore thumb, he kept an eye out for his next mark, tail swaying behind himself slowly, keen eyes scouring slowly. Ahhh...there's a good one...all on their own... the devious feline smiled to himself and began to carefully stalk his latest victim, hoping that he had something worth his time and efforts.
Emery: Despite the temptation it had been to return the misplaced bell to its rightful owner as soon as he had found it, the setting sun insisted another wise decision. There was no telling the exact route Pyry was taking back to the mountains, and the magnemite was unfamiliar with how different the trails were the further along they went. Not only that, but in the dark... it was safer to get everything together in town again, before testing the hazards of that tall land mass in the distance. He'd just try to follow the very vague instructions the cryogonal had offered once he actually felt comfortable about heading out again. Or... whenever he got fed up being around people. Whichever came first. The bell was pocketed as Emery tapped the face of the radio at his side alive again, volume tuned down to background noise to help him focus. It was never a treat to go into town, per se, but it was something different than the monotony of being lost in the wilderness. Maybe there was someone else around here that could offer more... trail mix, or something less easy to choke on. He was unaware that he was being pursued by one of such devious intent.
Lorne: Lorne was fascinated by the other child. Clearly he was another poke-child like himself, and Bast and the variety of others he’d met or come across over time but he had never seen one who was so multi-colored like this one. The radio on the others person was an interest to him, especially as he saw him fussing with it a little.
As was the fact something shiny had been slipped into a pocket. Money? A ring? The possibilities were high it was something decent, and so Lorne slunk closer, blending into the crowd a bit more while still stalking, wondering how best to slide his hand into that pocket after the shiny trinket that had caught his attention. Waiting till the other hit a less populated portion of the street he struck then, bumping up against the child with a “Sorry! Tripped over my shoe lace!” which he’d conveniently untied earlier. It was also a pair he used solely for moments like this, in case he had to ditch them lest he trip over the untied lace for real! As he used Emery for support as he tripped, his hand came forwards, towards the pocket that shiny had gone into.
Emery: Lorne's presence went completely over the magnemite's head. There had never been a time anyone thought to follow him, so it hadn't occurred to him that anyone would think to. It seemed that most of the humans liked to try to avoid their more pokémon-looking counterparts, so all Emmerich was really paying attention to was where his next stop should be. He'd never been in this town before, not until this last week, so he was still just as easily turned around as ever before. As the purrloin-boy bumped into him, the sudden jolting shock caused the radio at his side to crackle defiantly at the energy Emery generated. He was stunned into speechlessness for a moment, almost pulling his hands quickly toward himself for fear of being grabbed. Blinking at the explanation, he regained control of the emotion and dismissed the fear, offering a polarized hand to help the other boy steady himself. "You okay? You can take a moment to fix that, if you need," he suggested cautiously, shifting a little to help from a better angle. Emery hadn't seen this other kid around, but he was unaware of the ways of the pickpocket, or just how easy it was to fool someone who was unfamiliar.
Lorne: Lorne couldn’t be more pleased that the other boy didn’t even seem to register the fact he was anywhere near. It would make this all the easier having him oblivious like he was! The radio crackling made him rethink taking that. It seemed like it might be broken and what use did a broken radio have for him? Nope better to go after that shiny thing.
His hand had slipped inside that pocket with ease and pulled out what he sought, and pocketed himself a moment, before he bent to tie his shoe. “Thanks. Like I said, sorry about that! I wasn’t trying to run into you, you okay?” he finished tying his shoe and as he straightened disaster struck. Or disaster to him anyhow. The trinket he’d stolen fell out onto the ground which was the first issue. The second was realizing it was nothing but a stupid bell. ”A BELL!?” he growled low in his throat that his theft had been of something so…pointless! He scooped it up however and repocketed it quickly, maybe Bast would want it for something! Of course, he realized he’d been outed about a half a heartbeat later, and gave the kid a devious grin. “Later, chump!”
Emery: Emery was taken aback by the assurance that Lorne hadn't run into him on purpose. Why would someone purposefully do such a thing? He didn't see the benefits, only that it might be kind of painful. Especially considering the magnemite wasn't exactly the softest person to run into. It seemed the other boy managed to miss any metal patches, though, so that was a plus. "It's okay, you just might want to be more careful. Maybe try double-knotting your shoes if it happens very often, but you didn't hurt me," he suggested, pulling the volume dial on the radio so that it was fully off again. There was no use for a distraction at the moment. At first, the sound of the bell hitting the asphalt of the road immediately directed the magnemite-child to the pocket he had placed one in just moments before, only to find it empty. There was no suspecting Lorne, thinking that maybe it had just been jostled out of the fabric with the force of the impact. Even though that would have been a long time for it to have been in the air, if that were the case... but he didn't have the opportunity to think that far. He reached out for it, only to freeze when Lorne snatched it up and took of. "Ah, hey, that's not--" Emery began, considering that maybe the other poké-kid had mistaken it for something of his by accident. At least, he did until Lorne's words registered, his mismatched eyes growing wide, "G-Give that back!!" It wasn't even Emery's to give away like that! There was little time wasted in trying to gain ground against the thief, but Lorne was fast!
Lorne: He couldn’t believe his luck. This guy was so freaking naïve it was almost painful to witness! He listened to the offered suggestion with a mental roll of his eyes. Right. Double knotting. Sure. Not likely. Still he smiled at the suggestion and bobbed his head as if it was the best idea he’d ever heard.
“Not likely!” Lorne spat the words over his shoulder as he began to bob and weave through the crowd, toppling more than one person in his reckless dash. All with purpose of course. Lose himself in the mayhem so the other boy couldn’t catch him. Then he got blocked by cars crossing and he looked both ways quickly anxious to find a different way out of this mess and skittered off to the left, less people there but more places he could get lost in. Hopefully!
Emery: It was quickly becoming apparent, if it wasn't from the start, that there was little that the magnemite-boy could do to keep up with the thief with Pyry's bell. Lorne was likely used to evading capture, running and disappearing into crowded streets. Emery was immensely less used to the city, or any environment other than the factory setting he had grown so accustomed to. Normally he wouldn't even care to get the bell back, but his mind had already been made up to return it, and the start of preparations to leave had already been set. It wasn't a task he was used to accomplishing, but by all means, he meant to finish it successfully! Emmerich was not light on his feet, and he was not very adept at moving so skillfully through the crowds. More than once, he found himself struggling past those that Lorne knocked over, or was similarly jostled. This wasn't going to work! He pressed himself closer to the buildings to the edge of the sidewalk, but progress seemed to roll backwards with the move and he was beginning to get agitated. At this rate, he'd lose that purrloin for good, and then what was he going to do? He couldn't see Lorne any longer, but he kept himself moving forward nonetheless. The adrenaline coursing through with his rising panic and increased heart rate made it sound like static in his ears. His actions were getting more desperate as time wore on, despite the miniscule lapse of time. He wasn't even thoroughly thinking out his actions before carrying them out, but his goal had been set and there was no changing it. Repelling people away, using even the smallest metallic items they carried, he carved himself a path at the walls of the shops, listening for the ring of the bell as he ran.
Lorne: “Just…a bell…the hell…does he want it…for…?” the words were panted out as he continued to run, getting a little winded. Note to self….stick to older people. They tend to give up quicker than another kid. Damn! Lorne was glad he knew the city so well though. He’d find somewhere to lay low with the bell.
Glancing back was a mistake as he saw people suddenly moving aside, and Lorne felt a sudden stab of fear in him. What is he doing!? the idea was scary honestly! Slipping on water Lorne fell momentarily, the bell clattering away from him though he was scrambling then fingers curling around the bell again and he continued on, bell shoved into a pocket as he jumped at the chain link fence ahead of him and began to climb it.
Emery: In his desperate focus, Emery hardly batted an eye at those that he was shoving away. By the time he cut his way through the congested streets, made more so by the two poké-kids' rampage, attention was almost solely diverted to a single target. No, he was no longer focused solely on catching Lorne at this point, but the bell still within his grasp -- he barely even saw the violet-coated child any longer. He did, however, see the platform that the thief was perched upon, climbing steadily higher. If the magnemite were to give chase, Lorne would surely be up and over before Emery arrived to the base of the fence. At least, that would be the case if it hadn't been chain link. Emery was not careful about tearing the bolts from the cuffs around the poles to either side of the purrloin, popping out of their fastenings with a sound similar to that of a gunshot. With the chains no longer secured, the child focused his abilities to tearing the body of the fence from one pole and rolling it to the other, attempting to ensnare the purrloin within the very same object he had hoped to escape with. He kept up quick pace to reach the laid trap, his eyes narrowed with intention, "I believe you have something that doesn't belong to you."
Lorne: He was in the clear he just knew it! The other kid was as slow as…well a Slowbro! He’d be up and over the fence and well on his merry way before long if he climbed just a little faster. So close…his hand was a few inches from the top when he heard the sudden noise.
“What the fu-aaaahhhh!” the expletive died on his lips as he felt the fence he was perched on suddenly lurching forward…no sideways….oh crap it was rolling on him! A panicked look filled his green eyes as he found himself suddenly burritoed in chain link.
This kid was scary. What the hell was he? The words though they were heard and his ear pricked a little a nod of sorts given. “Yeah…front left pocket. I’d get it for you but…well.” He rattled the fencing just slightly to indicate the predicament preventing the retrieval of the sought after item. “Just a stupid bell. No need to nearly kill a guy over it geez.”
Emery: Once he reached the twisted fence, Emery gave a single sharp nod, reaching through the gaps in the links to retrieve the bell himself. He hadn't even considered releasing Lorne from those metallic clutches until Pyry's bell was back in the palm of his hand and his feet were back on solid ground. He hesitated to let go of the tiny instrument, holding on tighter instead of placing it back in his pocket, as though the fold of fabric would only end up once more failing in its mission to keep the bell safe. His eyes snapped back to Lorne as soon as the last words left his mouth, a sharp glare cast across. "If it's so stupid, why did you steal it in the first place?!" the magnemite snarled, gripping the chain at chest-level and shaking it once in emphasis. A ThunderShock arced from his fingers in reaction, shooting skywards and towards the trapped purrloin. Emery yanked his hand from the chain upon seeing the light, eyes growing wide. He didn't... he didn't do that! He didn't-- He stormed off a few paces, but it was subconsciously to avoid any countering attack for what he meant to do next. Carefully, he unwrapped the fence from around Lorne's person, allowing the feline-boy free reign of himself once more. Emery didn't dare say anything else, fingers tightening around the bell; he didn't feel like his body was his own anymore.
Lorne: Lorne almost breathed a sigh of relief as the bell was taken from him and held by the other. That was fine if he’d lost his take, better that than his life…and that’s what it felt like he’d have lost if he’d not given it back…or at least indicated where it was so it could be taken back! He wasn’t that stupid. “Never know what might fetch a price when sold. That and I thought my friend might like it. Not my sort of thing though.” He sniffed in obvious disdain at the bell, even as the magnemite boy snarled at him, a growl of his own emitted as the fence he was encased in like a Purrloin sausage was rattled and he along with it. It was that light coming down that had his eyes closing and he bracing for an impact that never came. He breathed a heavy sigh of relief, though tensed again as the boy came close again. What now!? Though once his feet were on the ground he jumped a few steps backwards, eying the boy warily as he tried to decide if he wanted to attack or not..and decided not. No he could go to another part of town and find some other mark. He was done here.
“Just keep your stupid bell.” He spat and started for a wooden fence not far off and scaled it, pausing long enough to look over his shoulder at Emery before jumping to the other side. A coward? Maybe. But then he also didn’t want to explain things to Bast if he’d come home messed up. Easier to flee.
