Ken: 肯 (Chinese), spelling kěn, meaning "to agree" laoshi.io/name/ken-76284/Yang: Surname (from location) (Chinese) Scripts: 杨 (Chinese) 楊 (Traditional Chinese) Pronounced /jaŋ/ : Meaning & History: Chinese 杨 (yáng) meaning "willow, poplar, aspen". surnames.behindthename.com/name/yangPhoto album art: Victory Road: Earth Badge and the FINAL BATTLE Mostly from Ken Yang's POV September 2024 Ken Yang the Scraggy vs. Paian the Trevenant (Dea and #Teddy#)Paian took a breath, seeing his opponent in front of him, which turned out to be a Scraggy. Alright, he thought, what should he use against them, going through his moves he knew. He looked to Dea, who gave him what move might be best, he could do that.
"Branch Poke!"he called out, before a stick appeared in his hands, one that had a sharp end to it. Then he poked it at the other Pokemon, hoping this worked.
(( Dea rolls a 42 ))Ken Yang was all by himself in this tournament. But that didn't mean he had no one to back him. Some kids and a couple teachers were there but had been eliminated before. During their times waiting and training they had gotten acquainted and they promised to cheer him on, after they had lost their games. It was so touching. His eyes got a little misty at the thought. But for now, he was facing a trevanant who knew his business. Ken was not the kind of fighter who used fancy moves, if they weren't needed. To start, he aimed a Low Kick at Paion.
(( Melo rolls 20 ))The fight between Paian the Trevenant and Ken Yang the Scraggy commenced! Ken ran in with the attempt to hit a Low Sweep against his taller opponent, but misjudged the ground work (and that he had to hold up his pants.) He instead rolled across the ground and right into the branch that Paian had produced. Looks like it was too much for poor little Ken Yang. PAIAN WINS THE MATCH AND WILL PROCEED! Ken Yang will recieve 1 GimmiCoin for the effort! What happens to fighters when they lose a competition? Especially early on, no one really notices or cares about the one who lost. Ken Yang was in the locker room getting cleaned up. If he had punched that trevanant, would that have made a difference? Ken Yang did some careful breathing and maintained his cool, despite nearly punching the locker. He stopped in time to feel the air slots but not enough to make a sound. If only he had exercised that level of control during the fight. Maybe he would have won. Better luck next year, right?"We saw your fight. How unfortunate to lose so soon." A group of unrelated pokémon approached, then stood around Ken Yang with giving an almost sinister impression. Until someone spoke up. "We've been watching all the fights, really. But you performed well in the qualifying rounds. Hey guys, I'm going to get us some snacks before the next one. Plus one? Okay."This voice, it sounded familiar, but he couldn't place it. But Ken Yang was ready for a second fight. He had been half-expecting trouble to come looking for his scraps. "It's no big deal. I have next year to try again." He didn't turn his head to look at anybody."Aw, but... don't you care?" A bramblin rolled into view. He rolled his round body to look up at Ken Yang with sorrowful... face? He could see that pokémon's face, clearly out of the corner of his eye. "Of course I care." He sighed. "I'm just. Look, I kind of want to be left alone right now.""We cheered you on, you know."He finally turned around and then he looked at the strange child who had just spoken. He was. Half-zangoose, half-seviper. How in the world had that happened?! Quizzically, he frowned. Wait, he remembered this kid's battles. He had been knocked out early but his spunk had left a big impression. But he had only seen the hybrid boy on the big screen. He would have been lucky to see the lower half and he didn't. So he had assumed he was just a zangoose. Now he knew better.
"Why would you do that?" Ken Yang finally asked."Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could win? I know that seems silly but everyone should earn something for their efforts. This tournament is huge. They could afford it." This speaker was a venusaur. A pretty young lady that he didn't remember fighting."I don't... know what to say."A herdier man held up a hand, palm up. Then he offered his hand to shake. "Would you like to watch the rest of the finals with us?" Oh, this herdier had been fighting too! He had a phone up all the time, talking into it while held out at arm's length. He was broadcasting his commentary on some website. Curious. He looked into the phone again. "We're in the locker room with Ken Yang, who was just eliminated because his pants had other ideas."Ken Yang chuckled as the phone was turned on him. What! What was this?"Do you have any words to share with my class? I'm a teacher, and I have been streaming since the beginning of the tournament." The herdier grinned."Well, okay.""Hey guys! We have a great opportunity to interview another fighter, Ken Yang. How do you feel Mr. Ken Yang? What are your thoughts today?""I was very angry, to be honest. My belt chose to break at that moment and got tangled in my feet. I tried to do a Low Sweep and end up rolling like a log right into my opponent's attack. I was so embarrassed.""And now, how do you feel? Any plans?""Well, I was going to stay in here and sulk for a while. But I think I'll watch the rest of the matches with you guys. I will study the fighter's movements to learn how to fight them in the future.""Excellent. Thank you Mr. Ken Yang.""You guys turned my feelings around with your concern and friendliness. I thank you." He took a deep breath and decided. "And you can call me Ken. You don't have to use my surname."Everyone showed different kinds of surprise. The strange hybrid boy spoke first. "Ken thanks. We really liked you for the champion spot.""You got so far, it's very admirable," the adoooorable venusaur said."Hey guys! I've got the snacks. Don't rush me all at once."The voice he had recognized was that of Cybele, who had just returned. He remembered seeing her on TV, and during the championships, she was interviewed several times. She was a trainer. And she had snacks. "Can I have a bag of chips?" A personal sized bag of chips flew at his head like a missile and he caught it. "Nice. Thanks!""You get a drink, too. I got one for everyone, including you.""Oh..." Ken Yang didn't know what to say. He stood there holding the chips, lips moving as if he was speaking but nothing came out. He was speechless. "Thank you anyway," he said finally, smiling. Losing wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. Not with friends around.
