Solo (Hisui-Paldea event entry)
It's a dark stormy night, wind lashing tree branches into buildings and sending leaves flying to the ground. Rain coming in sideways and so hard it feels like someone is throwing small pebbles around. What is the pokemon doing? Trying to find shelter? Using the storm to cause all sorts of mischief and mayhem? Helping another in need?
The weather had been bordering on awful all day and Sage had been keeping a wary eye on it as he scavenged and prowled. There was plenty of food to be found if you knew where to look and of course he always knew where to look to eat. Still, this weather looked awful, the sky had been a dark ominous grey all day and the wind had started off light and comfortable and had gotten strong enough that at times he thought he'd be blown away by it.
Still it was nothing compared to the weather now, the wind was worse than he could remember it ever being cutting through his fur and biting into skin and bone. Leaves skittering had him on edge and jumping like...well a cat. He knew he was being extra jumpy but with all the extra noise and scents he wasn't blaming himself.
But when a loud crack of thunder filled the air, lightning blinding him...and then the rain suddenly dumping on him he ran as hard as he could, not wanting to be out in it any longer than he needed to be. It was too windy and cold and worst of all wet to be out here! Normally he'd have found a tree to sleep in but with things the way it was that wasn't a good idea. Neither was sleeping under a car.
A yowl filled the air, his own he realized after a moment after another bolt of lightning split the sky and landed far too close for comfort. He turned tail and ran blinding through the storm, pausing when something catches the edge of his hearing. "..lp!" he strained to hear over the wind and rain swiveling his head around slowly. Had he been hearing things? "help!" nope definitely not hearing things. With a sigh Sage turned towards the yelling and found a Drifloon tangled around a tree, though maybe tangled wasn't the right word. In any case it was holding on for dear life to keep from being blown away by the look of things. "Help!" Sage sighed a little, normally he'd avoid a Drifloon but he wasn't heartless, just wary. Still the Drifloon seemed young and scared and injured and with a deep sigh he dashed through the rain. "Don't worry I'll save you!" it took Sage some time, but he managed to get the Drifloon untangled from the bush it was hanging onto, doing his best not to hurt it, but at one point having to explain he was going to kind of bite down to keep hold and find somewhere safe for them. With a cry only the young can do the Drifloon agreed and before long Sage was holding onto the streamers between his teeth trying desperately to keep the pair of them from being caught by the wind and blown away.
He lost track of how long he struggled against the wind and rain, claws digging into the wet muddy ground, and against wet slippery ground both before he found a spot they were mostly protected. He'd wedged open a cracked door, and turned around pushing it open more with his backside before quickly tugging the Drifloon in with him, and then letting go. "I hope I didn't hurt you." Sage said between chattering teeth, he was so cold and tired at this point. Knowing he should be careful, he didn't care and laid down near the other pokemon, carefully licking at a few wounds he could see on the other. "Just try to sleep. I think we're safe here. We're safe from the wind and rain anyhow."
Sage fell asleep despite his efforts not to, and when he woke he was alone the Drifloon having left at some point. He didn't know where it went, or when but he hoped it was okay and would find its family. With a slow careful stretch Sage eased up to his paws wincing. He was sore all over from the day before! Still he stepped out of the little building he'd taken refuge in, found a patch of warm sun and somewhere not still soaked from the storm to sit and proceeded to groom himself slowly before stretching feeling more at ease. A thorough grooming and sunbath had helped him feel energized. Now, it was time to find food! (726 words)

Sage stared at the bag that was close by curiously. What was in it he wondered. The woman had been carrying it carefully, and even when she gingerly set it down it clinked and clanked a little and it made him even more curious. It sounded interesting whatever it was! The woman was busy laughing and talking with other people, the scent of alcohol in the air, and before long she was no longer paying attention to the bag. Or had forgotten about it. He wasn't sure which, since either way she'd walked away from it, laughing and drinking. Now was his chance!
With practiced stealth the sprigatito crept closer, belly dragging on the ground and he wormed his way through the carrying strap of the bag till he was sure it was on him securely. Then he began to slowly creep away little by little, step by step making sure to keep an eye on the woman, and anyone else who might see him. Except everyone was too busy laughing and socializing to notice a green cat off in the shadows creeping away with a bag that more or less blended in with the surrounding dark.
After what felt like forever, Sage picked up the pace, the sounds of the party fading into the background as he made his way back to his little hide out, and paused out side of it to work his way back out of the bag strap. He didn't think it'd fit in while on him, and he pushed it in with his head and paws instead, tumbling in as the last of it popped through the narrow opening, the various items inside clanking together noisily. Looking down he noticed something making a mess and made a face. Oh great he'd broken something it looked like!
Carefully he got the bag open and found a few empty bottles in there and one mostly empty one now, and as he tried to get the empty bottle out it finished spilling all over him, his paws soaking in it. With a noise of disgust he pushed the broken bottle away and shook his paws as dry as he could (which wasn't very) and began to carefully groom them clean. Well so much for something fun and exciting in the bag. No, instead it was a bag of bottles, and near empty bottles and it was all just worthless and pointless and he was frustrated and damp and he didn't like that.
It took awhile for him to finish cleaning his paws to a level he was satisfied with, before he was pushing the bag back out of his little hiding spot. He had no use for a bag full of empty glass bottles after all! The broken one was gingerly pushed away as well and left just outside of his sanctuary. Let that mess be someone elses problem he wagered. With a yawn he slipped out as well, and trotted off in search of his next meal. It was hard work looking this cute after all.

The weather was changing, going from hot and sweltering making it impossible to do anything in the daytime to cooling down and Sage was thrilled about this fact. He wasn't a fan of the extreme heat he'd been dealing with. Even his little hide out, the hole in the wall between buildings that stayed nice and cool, wasn't enough to keep him from feeling sluggish and wanting to sleep more than anything. So cooler air making it's way in was a nice change. He was able to head out for longer in the day, and then return to hunting earlier in the afternoon.
It was also getting dark sooner, staying dark longer and he found himself staring up at the sky curiously. He couldn't see much up there, too much light pollution and all. Except for when he suddenly could. The whole city went black after a loud screech of tires, a series of loud booms and suddenly fire. Something had crashed into something else and knocked out all the power to the city. If he was more knowledgeable he'd know someone had crashed into a power station and knocked out power to everywhere until it was fixed.
Instead his eyes were fixed up on the star filled sky amazed by all the stars he could see. There were so many! He could see Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, and the Crabby Nebula and he thought that one in the distance might be the Swanna Constellation but he wasn't entirely sure. Still it was so neat to see all the stars and....was that stars shooting through the sky? He'd heard people talking about a Minior Shower and how they'd have to travel outside the city to see it. All they needed to do now was look up like he was!
As he watched, a non-Minior star broke away falling to the ground not too far from Sage and set him into motion curious if he could find it. He was very curious what a fallen star looked like! Ducking around legs and under parked cars he made his way into a little park and began to look around intently, sniffing the air. He could smell the churned up earth, and started to follow the smell until it grew stronger, pausing as he looked down at the pulsing gold star. <Pretty...> he purred as he reached out to touch the star curiously a yowl as it zapped his paw a little and he yanked it away with a hiss. <Stupid star!> he turned, kicking the dirt back over the star and started to prance off. If it was going to act like that then he didn't want anything to do with it. He made his way to a different area away from where he'd buried the star and looked up at the sky again a deep yawn from him as he did so. Why was he so tired suddenly? Probably the excitement of racing here to find that stupid star he wagered.
It was his last conscious thought before he fell asleep.
